ALLOCUTION—Allocution is defendant’s statement in mitigation of punishment. It allows the defendant to explain why the sentence should be lenient. Allocution is also required from the accused/ defendants in plea bargaining. There are various provisions under Criminal Procedure Code, 1973 on defendant’s right of allocution. |
